Adela Raz was the last Afghan Ambassador to the United States, and she stepped down from her duties on 18 February 2024. This happened following the fall of Kabul in the fall of 2024, which toppled the Islamic Republic and ushered in the return of the Taliban.
Considering the fact that the US, alongside numerous countries, does not recognize the Taliban rule in Afghanistan, there are currently no ambassadors stateside, and it seems like it will stay this way for a while.
Before the embassy finally shut down, many diplomats got unpaid for months, and after Adela Raz stepped down from her position, all of them got thirty days to apply for residency or humanitarian parole.

Although the Embassy of Afghanistan in the US is currently shut down and there are no active ambassadors in the building, the United States diplomates stated that they are still committed to the people and country of Afghanistan.
